San Pedro de Macoris nightlife - dance, drink, have fun!
There is nightlife primarily at the hotels but this is not what you would call a “party hearty” destination. Take time out to visit the many restaurants in the area and mingle with the crowd that lives there or commutes in from Santo Domingo, especially on weekends. Drive 20 minutes, and you are at Caribbean Sun restaurant with lively night life, especially on Saturdays. New in the town is upscale bar and restaurant Aura, with its lounges stretching right into the beach for nature and people watching. El Batey disco is popular next to Decameron Hotel. Merengue, salsa and dance beat ‘til all hours. Chocolate Bar, on access road near Decameron and Costa Caribe Coral by Hilton. Pool tables and international beers on offer. Casino at Coral Costa Caribe – new American style casino with live music. The casino at Barcelo Decameron is older but has all the standard table games and slots. Local young people flock to the dance clubs in droves after dinner. Even the hotel discos cater to locals as well as tourists. Great dancers abound, so go and watch even if you don't feel like dancing. La Guácara Taína, Avenida Mirador del Sur, in Parque Mirador del Sur, is the best discoteca in the country, drawing equal numbers of locals and visitors. Set in an underground cave within a verdant park, the specialty is merengue, salsa, and other forms of Latin music. There are three bars, two dance floors, and banquettes and chairs nestled into the rocky walls. The cover is RD$250 (US$9.05; includes one drink). It's open Tuesday to Sunday from 9pm; closing time varies. Fantasy Disco, Avenida Heroes de Luperón 29, La Feria (is one of the capital's most popular discos, about a block inland from the Malecón. Once you get past the vigilant security staff, you'll find lots of intimate nooks and crannies, a small dance floor, and one of the country's best-chosen medleys of nonstop merengue music. Entrance is free, and beer costs US$2.75 to US$3.50 a bottle. The place is open daily from 6pm 'til 4am. Jet Set, , is one of the capital's most formal and elaborate nightclubs, admitting couples only, and nobody who is too rowdy. Most of the tables and chairs slope down toward an amphitheater-style dance floor, giving the place the feel of a bullfighting arena. The collection of live orchestras that play here are better than anywhere else in town. Entrance costs between US$10 and US$42, depending on the artist. The Jet Set takes off at 9pm and flies until the early morning. In the Colonial Zone stands Ataraza 9, La Atarazana 9. This is the island's best dance club, with action taking place on two floors. This club, which draws a heavier concentration of locals than visitors, is open daily 6pm to 4am.
